Broadway Productions in Contention for the 79th Annual Tony Awards

As Broadway heads into its busiest stretch of the season, the focus is already shifting toward awards consideration and the upcoming 79th Annual Tony Awards.


To qualify for the 2026 Tonys, a production must officially open on Broadway during the eligibility window running from April 28, 2025 through April 26, 2026. Below is an overview of shows currently announced for the 2025–2026 Broadway season that fall within that window, organized by the award categories they are widely expected to be considered for.


Final classifications and eligibility decisions will be confirmed at the close of the season.

New Plays

Musical Revivals

  • Cats: The Jellicle Ball

  • Chess

Play Revivals

  • Every Brilliant Thing

  • Fallen Angels

  • Joe Turner’s Come and Gone

* Although these works have not previously been produced on Broadway, they are expected to be classified as “classic” plays and therefore compete in the revival categories.

Eligibility classifications and category placements remain provisional and are subject to review by the Tony Awards Administration Committee.
